Released in 2016 as a limited release to celebrate the distillery's two centuries, Lagavulin 8 Years has been so successful that it has become part of the permanent range of this famous maison. The story of this Whisky starts way back, specifically in 1885, when Harper's Weekly Gazette journalist and reporter Alfred Barnard embarked on a journey to discover the distilleries of Scotland, England and Ireland. During this trip, which lasted a full two years, Barnard visited 167 distilleries and, upon arriving at Lagavulin's, was offered precisely an 8-year-old Whisky that the journalist described, in his book, as 'exceptionally good.' He was not stingy with comments about the distillery itself either, so much so that he wrote that 'no more beautiful and romantic place could have been chosen for a distillery...'

Bright straw yellow in color, to the name it presents itself with great stylistic cleanliness with notes of black pepper, citrus peel under spirit and smoky tones, all alternating with sweeter aromas of milk chocolate without ever neglecting, of course, the marine profile. Tasting warm, viscous, almost oily, it shows numerous recollections of wood and smoke, tobacco and honey, with a long persistent finish in which, triumphant, smoky nuances, mixed with spices and chocolate.
