Founded in 1993 by Harold Currie (former director of Chivas Brothers), it is based in the picturesque village of Lochranza. The Isle of Arran distillery was the first legal distillery to reopen on the island after 160 years. Under the leadership of Gordon Mitchell the first distillate came out of the spirit safe on June 29, 1995, and the distillery officially opened on August 17 of that year.
Currently, the distillery is equipped with a 2.5-ton semi-lauter type mash tun, 6 washbacks made of Oregon pine wood (fermentation time is about 60 hours) and four stills, two of which were installed in 2016 to increase production from 750 thousand to 1.2 million liters, and 5 aging warehouses.
