ALCOHOL CONTENT:
13.50%
APPEARANCE:
Straw yellow color with clear greenish highlights.
BOUQUET:
The nose is clean, decidedly fruity and floral, including notes of tropical fruits, orange blossom, white flowers and nuances of almond. Iodine and marine sensations are also perceived on the nose, reminiscent precisely of the smell of the sea and the Lagoon.
TASTING NOTES :
The perception of these sensations is reinforced on tasting, where it emerges in all its minerality and sapidity, the distinctive and typical trait of its terroir. The result is a really pleasant and fresh sip, reminiscent of the amenity and purity of the Island. We report an excellent persistence and good acidity, which allows it to age for some time in the bottle, reaching full maturity.
SERVING TEMPERATURE:
between 16 and 18°C
GASTRONOMIC PAIRINGS:
Its triumph is with typical Venetian lagoon dishes where fish, seafood, artichokes, asparagus and fresh vegetables blend their aromas and scents.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
"Orto does not need the winemaker, because a great wine is created quite naturally in the vigna, not in the cellar." (Michel Thoulouze, founder)
It took years to prepare the vineyard in a completely natural way: 4.5 hectares were cultivated with barley, radish, oats and Chinese root, according to the "hard on hard" method, that is, without plowing it in order to preserve the characteristics of the delicate surface layer of soil. Once the traditional drainage system had been renewed to collect rainwater in the canals that run between the rows, the vines were planted using the "piede franco" method, that is, without grafting in the roots of American vines, which is older and more labor-intensive, to ensure greater strength.
And so in 2006, almost a decade later, without the use of plow or chemicals, Michael bottled his first Orto, a mineral white wine with a forthright and persistent TASTING NOTES. At Orto di Venezia, there is no winemaker, only nature and common sense: after harvesting by hand, the grape juice alone rests 10 months in steel barrels and 2 years in bottles.
