The image of the Isle of Islay in a glass, the purest symbol of Scotland in a single-malt whiskey that stands on its own: "La-ga-vù-lin" in Gaelic, lagavulin to the world, is the quintessential 16-year journey through time and takes place in oak casks to provide the best possible experience for the palate.
The coast south of Islay is the site of this distillery: legend has it that the area adjoining Dunyvaig Castle had already been home to clandestine schnapps producers as early as 1742 who began to establish the first legal distilleries. Two of these, Kildaton and Ardmore would later be taken over by Alexander Graham, who would bring them together under the name Lagavulin.
Lagavulin 16-year-old is whiskey a from south Islay, produced at the official lagavulin distillery in Port Ellend, Scotland, which has been in operation since 1816. The secret of this whisky is in the land, in the wild and impervious sea by which the island is washed, which gives the distillate that special herbaceous and balsamic TASTING NOTES, typical of the sea breeze.
Subject to one of the longest aging periods of all the Classic Malts, Lagavulin is golden in color with amber highlights, while it expresses intense notes of smoke and peat on the nose. Balance and roundness are the dominant notes, while the palate presents a slightly smoky taste of dried fruit and peat that develop into a rich, bold finish, with a slight hint of vanilla, the sweetest notes. It is a warm, full-bodied, passionate whisky.
To be enjoyed in moments of relaxation and meditation, this distillate represents the quintessential Islay whisky.
