The Rothschild family's winemaking tradition dates back to the second half of the 19th century, and to 1868 to be exact, when James de Rothschild purchased the famous Château Lafite. It was, however, in 1973 that, after more than a century of family history connected to the world of wine, James's great-grandson, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, strengthened the company's holdings, acquiring two "Crus Bourgeois" in Listrac and Moulis en Médoc: Château Clarke and Château Malmaison. Since then, the rise has not stopped: by rigorously restoring all structures and buildings, and initiating systematic replanting, the "Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild" was founded, which, while maintaining a family dimension, has opened up to modernization and innovation, even crossing French borders to land in South Africa and the Argentine Andes.
Experience and traditions dictate the pace as much in the vigna as in the winery, so among the rows the vines are raised with extreme care and with full respect for the environment and ecosystem, while during vinification, aging and refinement, each production step is meticulously and scrupulously monitored.
With the fifth generation of the Rothschilds now running the winery, and with Baron Eric de Rothschild at the head of Château Lafite-certainly the most important estate among all those of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild-the company currently always looks towards the future, but without ever forgetting the past and what its origins were.
Producing quality rosso wine that meets the highest standards in terms of terroir selection and choice of winemaking systems, the company continues to expand steadily, keeping its passion for excellence firmly in place and the bar set firmly on a regular production dynamic. A winemaking enterprise, in short, to be included among the most prestigious around the world, especially if we talk about the best French rosso wines, capable like few others of combining the highest excellence with large numbers.
