ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Etna Rosso "Dea Vulcano" from the famous Sicilian winery Donnafugata is a fra-grant, fresh and fruity rosso with a pleasantly simple and immediate character. It is a young wine, to be savored on the fruit, to capture all the aromatic richness of ec-cellent grapes. It is the ideal bottle to approach the complex world of Etna wines and to begin to know its fundamental characteristics. Donnafugata owns estates in the most prestigious areas of Sicily, and on Etna it manages a 35-hectare property, with vineyards in six different contrade Montelaguardia, Statella, Camporè and Calderara in the municipality of Randazzo, and Marchesa and Verzella in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. Faithful to the traditions of the area, it cultivates the classico varieties of Etna: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante.
"Dea Vulcano" is an Etna Rosso from Donnafugata made with the grapes of Nerello Mascale-se and a small part of Nerello Cappuccio, which come from different vines cultivated with the alberello system, located on the northern slope of Etna, between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia at an altitude between 700 and 750 meters above sea level. The soils are of lava ori-gine, rather deep and rich in minerals, with a loose, sandy texture. The climate is cool, with considerable temperature ranges, both between seasons and between day and night temperatures. Harvesting takes place in the first half of October, with hand-picking of best bunches, which are then further sorted on the vibrating table before vinification. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled tem-perature of 25 °C, with a short maceration on the skins of about 8-10 days. The wine matures for 14 months in cement vats and partly in second- and third-passage French oak barriques, to then complete the aging with 10 months in bot-tiglia.
Donnafugata's Etna Rosso "Dea Vulcano" is the pure and direct expression of Etna's great wines, in its most youthful and simple, agile and flowing version. It presents itself in the glass with a light ruby red color, bright and almost transparent. The bouquet is caratte-rized by refined and elegant aromas reminiscent of red currants, morello cherries, lampo-ne, wild strawberries, floral and herbal nuances of the mid-terranean scrubland. On the palate it denotes a medium structure, with a fine and delicate tannic texture, a crisp and ripe sip, accompanying towards a harmonious, fresh and savory finish.
