The history of the Marzadro Distillery is closely intertwined with the history of post-war Italy. In Trentino, the war had hit the economy and the population hard, and to survive, the young women from small villages went into "domestic service" for wealthy families, even in other parts of Italy. Sabina Marzadro shared the same fate, but upon returning to Trentino, she decided to follow her dreams and undertake the art of distillation. Her goal was clear: to distill quality Grappa. Through effort and sacrifice, she managed to have a still built, and in 1949, the first pomace finally arrived to begin production. Marzadro Grappa soon became famous throughout the village and production began to grow, with Sabina and her brother Attilio at the head of the distillery. In 1960, Sabina left the distillery in the hands of her brother and his wife, Teresa; the change in management was also accompanied by a subsequent renovation of the equipment and the company. Attilio's family grew quickly, so much so that his children soon began helping their parents manage the distillery. In 1975, the Marzadro Distillery created the first single-varietal Grappa, obtained from Marzemino grape pomace. By the end of the seventies, the copper stills at the Marzadro Distillery were already using a "Bagnomaria" (water bath) system, a major innovation in the world of distillation, as the prolonged heating enriched the steam with aromas. In the eighties, after the company passed from Attilio to his children, the Grappa crisis began. The world had changed; big brands and advertising dominated the market. Attilio’s heirs acted quickly, creating a new type of product that better responded to market demands. A grappa-based liqueur with Trentino blueberries was produced. Once the great Grappa crisis had passed, Marzadro continued to grow, and the Rovereto facility was added to the original distillery in Brancolino. Today, the third generation is at the helm of Marzadro, the main headquarters has been moved to Nogaredo, and the family has been and continues to be the beating heart of the company.
