ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Girlan's Schiava "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" is a wine made from the most representative red grape variety in the Alto Adige tradition. It is the rosso that best tells the story of the area, the most widely planted ever before the advent of the white-chist revolution that changed the face of the region. Elegant, fresh, fruity and with subtle tannins, it is a streamlined, delicate wine with great smoothness and pleasant drinking pleasure.
The "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" Schiava is part of the Selections line of Cantina Girlan, a company that manages the vineyards of more than 200 winegrowers, who cultivate plots located in the best areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" is produced from the vigna located in the Gschleier vineyard of the same name near Cornaiano, a cool, sunny terroir that is among the most renowned for Schiava. The vines are compre- sive between 80 and 110 years old and are located at an altitude of about 450 meters above sea level, on soils of a calcareous nature, with the presence of clay and gravel. After manual harvesting, fermentation lasting about 15 to 20 days is carried out, followed by a 9-month maturation period in large oak barrels and a 6-month bottle aging period before release for sale.
The wine "Vecchie Vigne Gschleier" from the South Tyrolean winery Girlan is a Schiava of parti- cular quality, expressing the full potential of this ancient grape variety. Excellent to drink young, it also has good potential for evolution and aging. The color is light ruby red. The nose expresses floral scents, delicate hints of red fruit and hints of underbrush. The sip is slender and dynamic, aromatically deep, with subtle tanni-nies and a finish of good sapidity.
