Arnaldo Caprai Winery is the iconic wine producer of Montefalco (Umbria), founded in 1971 by textile entrepreneur Arnaldo Caprai (who passed away in January 2026) and brought to international success by his son Marco Caprai starting in the late 1980s. It is famous worldwide for having rediscovered, promoted, and established the native Sagrantino di Montefalco grape variety at the pinnacle of Italian oenology.
Foundation: Established in 1971 in Montefalco, in the province of Perugia, with the purchase of the first 45 hectares of vineyards.
The Turning Point by Marco Caprai: Since 1988, management has been in the hands of his son Marco, who has invested heavily in agronomic research, experimentation, and sustainability.
Recent Acquisition: In 2026, the Angelini Wines & Estates group acquired a majority stake in the winery to strengthen its standing among Italy’s great premium wines.
